Overview

The Van Hoosen Jones-Stoney Creek Cemetery is located at Tienken and Sheldon Road and open daily from 8:00 a.m. until dusk.

The cemetery lays adjacent to the Stoney Creek Historic District.  The land was donated to Avon Township by the late Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones in 1956.  It is comprised of 16.8 acres atop rolling terrain and is truly a beautiful and serene place.  It opened in 1978 and consists of 11,200 burial plots each with two spaces.  In addition, a cremation area of 239 spaces is also available.

The cemetery gives one a sense of being home, which was what Sarah Van Hoosen Jones intended.  Many of the men and women who once lived and worked on her farm have chosen to come "home" to be buried on the farm.

It's the people that make the cemetery what it is.  They donate benches, trees and plant gardens throughout the cemetery to make it a place of beauty.  The National Women's Farm and Garden Club gave the sundial in remembrance of its members.  The Veterans from the Homer Wing Post of the American Legion donated the flagpole.

As you walk through the cemetery, you are journeying through the history of Avon Township now known as the City of Rochester Hills.  The list of those buried reads like a Who's who of our community. There are many professionals, civil servants and people active in the community who dedicated their lives to this community and have found their final resting place in the Van Hoosen Jones-Stoney Creek Cemetery.
