Parks & Natural Resources Outdoor Engagement Team Look to Get You Out on the Water this July

This July, the City’s Parks & Natural Resources Department, through their Natural Resources Division, will continue to offer outdoor programs and with a focus on water! Programs will continue to follow up-to-date social distancing and gathering guidelines.

Programs start off in July with a Fishing for Beginners program where you and your family can come out and fish with us in this informative program for beginners. We will learn some fishing basics, common types of fish, local fishing regulations, general safety and hopefully catch some fish along the way! All materials are provided.

Later in the month, we will be hosting multiple Kayak programs in Spencer Park. If you would like to learn more about kayaking, check out our Kayaking 101 programs in July also. This beginner’s class is designed for someone wanting to try out kayaking for the first time. It will cover basic kayaking safety, etiquette, and boat and paddle basics. Boats and safety equipment provided.

Also in July, we will once again view the Clinton River from a whole new perspective - RAFT IT! With twists and turns, combined with swift current, this event is for those individuals who enjoy the splendor of nature coupled with a physical workout. Spanning the better part of an afternoon; this tour may last a full 3 hours. With this program, participants are required to be: ambulatory, able to swim, and physically fit to paddle and portage their own solo raft and stand up from their tubes without assistance. Lastly, don’t forget to register your 10-13 year old for our Outdoor Adventure Camp in early August!

To register for these programs or to learn about our other upcoming Outdoor Engagement Opportunities throughout the summer, visit our website or call the Parks & Natural Resources Department 248-656-4673.
